THE
TRACK
The track is located at Piedra Cruz on the north east side of Bonaire. It is currently the largest purpose-build landsailing track in the world.
We used Calcium Sulphate, which is natural plaster, to create the track. The material was donated by Cargill Salt Bonaire
Cargill produces Calcium Sulphate as a byproduct of their salt production on the south coast of Bonaire.
It's 100% environmental neutral, we therefore don’t pollute the ground, sea and/or reefs.
For landsailing, the advantage of Calcium Sulphate is that it gives us a hard under layer and a gravel-like (loose) top layer on which it’s fun to slide in the corners.
The track is an elongated figure 8 design of which the straights are roughly at beam-reach with our prevailing wind from the north east. This makes the track not only very easy to sail but also very fast.
Currently the total track length is 580m (635 yards). The track will be extended to 2000m (2190 yards) in three phases of which the first one will be finished in April 2007.

Calcium Sulphate before it's crushed for use on the track.
